Below you'll find all the information about the hardware required for Pickware POS. You can learn how to set it up in a separate article.
iPad, iPhone and iPod
The Pickware POS system was developed for use with iOS devices and supports iPad, iPhone and iPod. For the best possible convenience in your physical store, we recommend using iPads. For the POS App, you need a device that supports at least iOS 15.
Cash drawer, receipt printer and customer display
For optimal processes in your store, we recommend additional hardware. To ensure compatibility of your POS hardware and so we can support you with any hardware issues, we recommend purchasing additional POS hardware directly from our Pickware Hardware Shop.
For the cash drawer, we recommend two options:
the Star mPOP cash drawer with an integrated receipt printer, which connects via Bluetooth
and the simple cash drawer, which you connect to your receipt printer via cable.
To go with these, you can also purchase receipt printers and customer displays from our shop.
To ensure your receipt printer is compatible with our POS system, we strongly recommend purchasing it directly from our shop. If you don't have any hardware yet, we offer complete POS sets - either with an integrated or an external receipt printer – which include everything you need to equip your store. Please note that you need a separate receipt printer for each register.
In addition to the hardware we offer, you can also continue to use cash drawers you already own. What matters here is not the manufacturer of the cash drawer, but the connection type used. If your cash drawer can be connected to the receipt printer via an RJ11 cable connection, it can generally be used with Pickware POS. Please note: We recommend hardware from the Pickware Hardware Shop so we can best support you with selection, setup and troubleshooting. For hardware not purchased from us, we cannot make any statement about the specific compatibility of individual models.
Barcode scanner
For faster checkout, using a barcode scanner is a good idea. You can find compatible devices in our Hardware Shop:
The POS Barcode Scanner is connected via USB cable to the cash drawer or the POS receipt printer and ensures you always have both hands free for scanning.
If, on the other hand, you frequently attend trade fairs and value a mobile POS setup, the POS Handheld Scanner may be better suited for you, since it connects to your iPad or iPod via Bluetooth.
How do I set up card terminals?
If you want to offer card payments in your store, you need the Zettle by PayPal Reader. This is configured directly during the setup of the POS App. The card terminal can be added within the app and then used for payments.
The standalone Zettle Terminal – Zettle's all-in-one device with an integrated display and its own POS software – is not compatible with Pickware POS, as it cannot connect to your iOS device via Bluetooth. For card payments, you need the Zettle by Paypal Reader or another ZVT-capable card terminal.
You can also use other ZVT-capable card terminals with the POS. In this case, the connection is set up via manual configuration. The following information is usually required for setup:
IP address of the card terminal
Port
Device PIN
You can obtain the required values from your payment provider or the card terminal manufacturer's documentation. Please note that when using external card terminals, no automatic amount transfer takes place. In this case, the card payment must be stored as an Additional Payment Method in Pickware POS.
For detailed information on setting up and configuring your card terminal, we also recommend using the documentation from the respective manufacturer.
You can find more information on setting up your card reader here.
Document printer
If invoices are to be printed in DIN A4 at the POS system, we recommend using a network printer that supports the Internet Printing Protocol (IPP), as this can be connected directly to the POS App. If your printer is not network-capable or doesn't support IPP, you can use a print server.
