How does packing work for batch picking in the WMS App?

With batch picking, picking is followed by a separate packing process. In this process, you assign the collected products to the individual orders, assign them to boxes, and complete the orders, including printing documents and shipping labels.

Packing modes

Two modes are available for the packing process of batch picking, which you define in the WMS configuration:

  • Product by product – You scan the collected products one after another and assign them to the boxes of the respective orders. This process is described below.

  • Order by order – You pack one order completely before starting the next one. After scanning a product, you pack all remaining items of the same order, print documents and the shipping label, and only then move on to the next order.

Packing overview

Once picking is complete, you arrive at the packing overview.

Use Start packing to begin the packing process. Alternatively, you can use Ship later to postpone the entire process.

Here you see a progress ring that shows you how many orders and products have already been packed. Below that, you'll find the product list of all products to be packed.

Packing products and assigning boxes

Scan a product or select it via the product selection to assign it to a box. The WMS App shows you the name, item number, manufacturer, and weight for each product. In the lower area, you see the assignment: how many units of the product are to be packed into which box. The checkmark next to Quantity turns green as soon as the required amount is reached.

Tap Complete box to confirm the assignment and move on to the next product.

Order progress

Within an order, you see the order number at the top, a green progress bar, and the current box number. The product list is divided into Open products and Packed products. Open products still need to be scanned and assigned, while packed products have already been assigned to a box.

Completing and shipping the order

Once all products of an order have been packed, a checklist with the following steps appears at the bottom of the screen:

  • Complete order — The order is marked as completed.

  • Print documents — Order documents such as the delivery note or invoice are printed automatically, depending on the configuration.

  • Print shipping label — The shipping label is created and a dialog automatically opens where you can check and, if necessary, adjust the shipping method, package weight, package dimensions, and shipping address.

Once the shipping label has been created, tap Ship to mark the order as shipped and move on to the next order.

If you don't want to ship the order yet, you can also cancel the creation of the shipping label. You can then continue via Ship later.

Postponing the packing process

You can postpone a packing process at any time. To do this, tap the three-dot menu in the top right and select Postpone.

A receipt for the postponed shipping process is printed, listing the remaining products. By scanning the barcode on the receipt, you can resume the packing process at a later time.

Info view and order overview

You can also open the Info view via the three-dot menu. This shows you the picking list number as well as an overview of all included orders, divided into Open orders and Packed orders. Each order is displayed with order number, date, and customer name.

Note: With single-order picking, there is also a packing process. Since a scan there corresponds directly to one order, the process differs slightly. For more information, see the corresponding article.
