How do I configure shipping methods so that the correct shipping carrier products are automatically selected?

With Pickware, you can configure per Shopify shipping rate which shipping carrier and which shipping product you want to use for the delivery. To be able to create shipping labels when picking your Shopify orders via the WMS App or in the admin, corresponding shipping methods need to be created and configured in the Pickware Admin. Below, we'll show you all the necessary setup steps.

Configuring the shipping carrier

In the Pickware Admin, under Settings → Extensions, you'll find the settings menu Shipping Labels General, which applies to all shipping carriers you use. There you can enter the sender address as well as customs information. Please note that automatic creation of customs documents is currently only possible with DHL. In addition, there is a settings menu for each shipping carrier. Once you've made the general settings, they also apply to all other shipping extensions.

You can find all the details on the supported shipping carriers in a dedicated article for each one.

Configuring shipping methods

When you import your Shopify orders, a shipping method with the same name is created in Pickware for every shipping method in Shopify. You'll find these under Settings → Shop → Shipping. Here, you can make the following settings for each shipping method:

Basic information

Here you can see the basic information about your shipping method. If it was imported from Shopify, you usually won't need to make any further adjustments here.

If you create a shipping method directly in your Pickware Admin, for example for B2B orders, you'll also find the field Tracking URL here. Here you can enter the link to the tracking page for the respective shipping carrier, using the placeholder %s instead of the actual tracking number. For DHL, for example, you would enter this URL:

https://www.dhl.de/de/privatkunden/dhl-sendungsverfolgung.html?piececode=%s

You can use this field to integrate the tracking link directly into your email template for emails from the Pickware Admin. You'll find the detailed instructions for this here – there you'll also find the tracking URLs for the other shipping carriers.

Shipping carrier

Select the desired shipping carrier here. Depending on your selection, further specific settings are available. For shipping labels to be created later on, the corresponding shipping carrier must have been configured.

Pickware WMS document printing

Here you can determine which documents, and how many copies, should be printed automatically after picking. For the documents to be printed, they must have been generated beforehand. Invoices and delivery notes are generated by default; if you want to automatically print another document type, you first need to generate it (or have it generated), for example by creating a corresponding flow in the Flow Builder.

Pickware WMS return label

Here you can select whether a return label should be automatically printed for this shipping method after picking with the WMS App. Please note that this option is only available for shipping carriers that support the creation of return labels.

Shipping carrier

Once you've selected a shipping carrier here, various setting options become available depending on the shipping carrier. All settings and service options can still be individually adjusted when creating a shipping label.

Package configuration

In addition to the individual setting options for the various shipping carriers, you'll find the sections Package configuration for entering package weights and dimensions, as well as Privacy configuration for determining whether the customer's email address and/or phone number should be passed on to the shipping carrier, for all providers here. The following options are available:

Paketkonfiguration.png

  • Weight surcharge per package – Here you can specify an absolute or relative value for packaging and cushioning material, which is added to the package weight.

  • Fallback package weight – A package weight is required for a shipping label to be created. In case no weight is stored for a product in an order and the package weight therefore cannot be determined, the value you enter here is used instead. If you leave the field empty, a weight must be entered manually for every shipment containing a product without a specified weight.

  • Maximum package weight – If you enter a value here, an order is automatically split into multiple packages if it exceeds this value. You can leave the field empty if you don't want automatic splitting.
