To assign GLS products to your shipping methods and create labels automatically, you first need to configure a few settings.
Registration with GLS
To create shipping labels for GLS in Pickware, you need the following credentials from GLS:
API key
API secret
Contact ID
If you have any questions about these, please contact your contact person at GLS.
GLS settings
Before you configure the settings for GLS, make sure you have first configured the general settings for all carriers. You can find them under Settings → Extensions → Shipping labels common. These settings apply to all carriers you use. You can find all the details here.
You can find the settings specifically for GLS shipping labels under Settings → Extensions → GLS.
Sales Channel
Here you can specify which of your Sales Channels the following settings apply to. By default, the settings apply to all Sales Channels. If you only use one Sales Channel, still select the option All sales channels. If you select a specific shop, all fields are initially linked to the general settings. You can recognize this by the chain icon and the grayed-out fields. Click the icon to remove the link and enter individual values, while other fields remain linked. |
GLS login
API-Key, API-Secret - You receive this data from GLS after registration.
Contact ID - Enter your Contact ID here. You receive it from your contact person at GLS.
Use testing web service - Enable this option if you do not want to use the GLS production web service. For more information, contact your contact person at GLS.
Label format
GLS specifies the label format, so there is no paper format setting in the GLS settings. GLS delivers the labels in the size 100 mm x 150 mm, which roughly corresponds to a DIN A6 page (105 mm x 148 mm). A copy for the sender (sender duplicate) is not available.

Save data
Don't forget to save the data you entered using the blue button at the top before you leave the menu. If the button shows a white checkmark instead of the word Save, all data has been saved since your last entry.
Additional GLS services
GLS offers further services beyond label creation. In the carrier configuration of the shipping method, they are listed in the Additional services section, most of them under the name of the GLS service:
SignatureService: The recipient must sign for the delivery.
AddresseeOnlyService: GLS delivers the parcel only to the recipient in person, not to neighbors or a ParcelShop.
AddOnLiabilityService: GLS is liable for each parcel up to the amount you enter under Liability amount per parcel. GLS Germany only offers €5,000. The service is not available in all countries, for example not in Austria.
LimitedQuantitiesService: The shipment is marked as dangerous goods in limited quantities.
Dangerous goods: Parcels containing products with a GLS dangerous goods number are sent to GLS as dangerous goods shipments. This requires a dangerous goods agreement with GLS.
Delivery to a ParcelShop chosen by the recipient (ShopDeliveryService) has its own section, Delivery to ParcelShop.
You do not enable these options in the GLS settings but per shipping method in the carrier configuration. You can find out how here.
Cash on delivery
You can create GLS shipping labels with cash on delivery. You can find the switches Cash on delivery and Cash on delivery amount under the Additional services when creating the shipping label. If the order has a payment method that is stored as a cash on delivery payment method in the shipping settings, Pickware automatically sets cash on delivery with the order total.
GLS only supports cash on delivery in euros. In addition, GLS transmits the reference of the shipping label as the payment reference. If it is missing, the message "Reference missing" appears and the label is not created.
Notes and reference on the label
In the Label section of the carrier configuration, you define two note rows with Note on the label (row 1) and Note on the label (row 2). They are printed in the "Note" field of each parcel label, with a maximum of 50 characters per row.
With Print reference as barcode, the reference of the shipping label, such as the order number, is additionally printed as a barcode on the label, for example for scanning in the warehouse. Pickware transmits the reference to GLS, and it also appears in the GLS end-of-day report.
GLS returns with QR code
For GLS return labels, the Additional services include the option QR code instead of return label. Your customer then shows the QR code at the GLS PaketShop and does not have to print a label. The returns email to the customer shows the QR code. The option is not available in all countries, for example not in France.
Note: GLS return labels cannot be canceled in Pickware, because GLS only cancels them via the responsible depot.
GLS end-of-day report
You perform the GLS end-of-day report in the GLS plugin, also retroactively for past days. For a user to be able to run the end-of-day report, their role needs the permissions View and Create in the Orders area.
GLS rejects the label because of name fields that are too long
GLS accepts at most 40 characters in the address field Name2. If the entry is longer, GLS rejects the label. In this case, shorten the details in the shipping address and create the label again.
When will my parcels be picked up?
Pickup times are agreed directly with your GLS account manager.
