How do I set up GLS for Pickware?

Before you can assign GLS products to your shipping methods and create labels automatically, you need to configure a few settings.

Before you can assign GLS products to your shipping methods and create the corresponding labels automatically, you need to configure a few settings.

Registration with GLS

To create shipping labels for GLS in Pickware, you need the following credentials from GLS:

  • API key

  • API secret

  • Contact ID

You can find out how to get these credentials in How do I get credentials for the new GLS API? If you have any questions, contact your contact person at GLS.

GLS settings

Before you configure the settings for GLS, make sure you have already configured the general settings for all carriers. You can find them under Settings → Extensions → Shipping labels common. These settings apply to all carriers you use. You can find all the details here.

You can find the settings specifically for GLS shipping labels under Settings → Extensions → GLS.

Sales Channel

Here you can specify for which of your connected Shopify shops ("Sales Channels") the following settings should apply. By default, the settings apply to all connected shops. If you have only one Shopify shop connected to this Pickware Admin, still select the option All sales channels.

If you select a specific shop, all fields are initially linked to the general settings. You can recognize this by the chain icon and the grayed-out fields. Click the icon to unlink a field and enter individual values, while other fields remain linked.

GLS login

  • API key, API secret – You receive these credentials from GLS after registration.

  • Contact ID – Enter your Contact ID here. This is a short number that starts with "2". Enter it without spaces. The Contact ID is not your login for the API. You receive it from your contact person or from GLS support.

  • Use testing web service – Activate this option if you do not want to use the GLS productive web service. For more information, contact your contact person at GLS.

Label settings

Select here which paper format you want to use for your labels. With the GLS ShipIT API, GLS only provides the label in A6 format. A copy for the sender (sender duplicate) is no longer available.

GLS label in A5 format with a copy for the sender (no longer available with the GLS ShipIT API):

Save data

Don't forget to save the data you entered using the blue button at the top before you leave the menu. If the button shows a white checkmark instead of the word Save, all data has been saved since your last entry.

Additional GLS services

Beyond pure label creation, GLS offers further service options: signature-required delivery (SignatureService), marking a shipment as dangerous goods in limited quantities (LimitedQuantitiesService), and delivery to a ParcelShop chosen by the recipient (ShopDeliveryService).

You do not activate these options in the GLS settings, but per shipping method in the carrier configuration. You can find out how to do this here.

FAQ: When will my parcels be picked up?
