Which general settings are there for shipping labels?

Shopify — You can find the general settings for all shipping extensions under Settings → Extensions → Shipping labels common.

You can find the general settings for all shipping extensions under Settings → Extensions → Shipping labels common. When you set up Pickware for the first time, you need to configure these settings once, and they then apply to all carriers you use. You then also need to configure the settings for the carriers you use.

You can find all carrier-specific settings here.

Sales Channel

Here you can specify for which of your connected Shopify shops ("Sales Channels") the following settings should apply. By default, the settings apply to all connected shops. If you have only connected one Shopify shop to this Pickware Admin, still select the option All sales channels.

If you select a specific shop, all fields are initially linked to the general settings. You can recognize this by the chain symbol and the grayed-out fields. Click the symbol to unlink and enter individual values, while other fields remain linked.

Cash on delivery payment methods

Select here all payment methods that are cash on delivery payment methods. Cash on delivery is then automatically activated when creating a shipping label for orders with these payment methods. This requires that a cash on delivery label has not already been created.

Attention: Only enter genuine cash on delivery payment methods here. If, for example, prepayment is entered here, every shipping label for an order paid by prepayment will get the cash on delivery service.

You do not configure cash on delivery per shipping method. Pickware activates it exclusively via the order's payment method and this field.

Sender address

Enter here the sender address that should be printed on the shipping labels.

You can specify the sender address per Sales Channel. To do so, select the Sales Channel above and unlink it via the chain symbol to enter a different address.

If you only need a different sender for individual shipping methods, enter an alternative sender address or a shipper reference in the shipping method under the section Address configuration. Learn more in How do I configure the shipping methods so that the correct carrier products are selected automatically?

Attention: Austrian Post and Swiss Post require a sender address in the respective country. With a German default sender, the label fails. Therefore, enter a sender address in Austria or Switzerland for the affected Sales Channel.

Can I use shipper references as an alternative to the address?

If you have stored shipper references in the DHL business customer portal, you can also use them in Pickware. To do so, open the stored sender address in the Pickware Admin under Settings → Extensions → Shipping labels common and enter the following note in the Address addition field: Absenderreferenz <Referenz-ID>.

Pickware automatically recognizes the entry in the address addition and transmits the stored shipper reference to DHL when creating the shipping label. If no such entry exists, the sender address stored in Pickware is used as usual.

Customs information for export

When creating a shipping label, the export documents can be created directly along with it for some carriers, provided the corresponding information has been stored.

Some information is maintained directly in the respective product properties in the Pickware Admin. You can find an overview here.

For each carrier, the corresponding information must be stored under Settings → Extensions → Shipping labels. You can find further notes in the tooltip of the respective field in the Pickware Admin.

What belongs in the customs fields?

Some customs fields often lead to questions or error messages when creating the label:

  • Office of origin – the name or address of the post office from which you ship. The field may be at most 35 characters long, otherwise the error officeOfOrigin appears. DHL Express requires this field, otherwise the error placeOfIncoterm appears.

  • Customs identification numbers of the sender – this is where you enter your customs numbers, for example EORI number, VAT Id or IOSS number, each with type and issuing country.

  • Description of the shipment – also applies to DHL Express. Pickware passes it there as the content description for all DHL Express shipments.
