If you sell products with different tax rates (e.g. 19% standard and 7% reduced) in Shopify, you can use Shopify collections in the Pickware Admin to control which tax rate is applied during product import. This way, tax rates are automatically set correctly, without you having to adjust them manually after the import.
Requirement: Your products with a reduced tax rate must be assigned to a manual collection in Shopify. Automatic (smart) collections are not supported.
Recommendation: Additionally configure a tax override for this collection in Shopify — without it, Shopify will calculate the wrong tax rate at checkout.
Configure tax rate assignment
In your Pickware Admin, navigate to the relevant Sales Channel.
Switch to the Product Import (Produktimport) tab and find the Tax Inheritance from Shopify (Steuerübernahme aus Shopify) card.
Enable the Apply Tax Rates from Shopify Collections (Steuersätze aus Shopify-Kollektionen übernehmen) toggle.
The table shows all configured tax rates. Click the row of the tax rate (e.g. 7%) you want to assign collections to.
In the dropdown, select the Shopify collections whose products should be imported with this tax rate.
Save your settings at the top right.
Starting with the next product import, the configured tax rate is automatically applied to products from the configured collections.
If the Apply Tax Rates from Shopify Collections (Steuersätze aus Shopify-Kollektionen übernehmen) toggle is disabled, all products are imported with the standard tax rate.
Update existing products
Products that were already imported before this feature was activated initially keep their previous tax rate. When you save your settings, a dialog appears that lets you apply the configured tax rates directly to your already imported products.
Additional notes
The Standard Tax Rate (Standardsteuersatz) row in the table cannot be linked to collections. All products without an assigned collection automatically receive the standard tax rate.
If a product belongs to multiple collections that are assigned to different tax rates, the higher tax rate is applied.
If a product is marked as tax-exempt in Shopify (the Charge tax on this product option is disabled), it always receives a tax rate of 0%, regardless of the collection.
