With label print formats, you define how your product labels are placed on the paper: individually for label printers, on pre-cut label sheets such as Avery Zweckform or HERMA, or as a grid on plain paper that you cut out. What appears on the label and how it is laid out, on the other hand, you design in a label template — learn more in How do I design custom templates for product labels?
Which print formats are available?
Single label (roll): One label per page, for label printers with roll or continuous labels. This print format is always available and does not need to be created.
Label sheet: Pre-cut sheets with multiple adhesive labels. The individual die-cut is called a cell and determines the label size.
Free grid: Multiple labels side by side on plain paper. How many labels fit on a page depends on the label size. If you like, cut marks are printed along with them for cutting out the labels.
The following print formats are already set up:
Label sheets: Avery Zweckform 3474, 3475, 3489, 3651, 3653, 3666, L4736, L7160 and L7163 as well as HERMA 4453
Free grid: DIN A4 with cut marks
Manage print formats
You can find your print formats in the Pickware Admin under Settings → Shop → Label print formats. Alternatively, you can get there directly via the Manage print formats link in the Create product labels window or via Manage label sheets in a label template.
The overview shows the name, type and grid of each print format. Via the context menu, you can open, duplicate or delete a print format. You create a new print format via Create label print format.
Create a label sheet
Select Label sheet as the Type and enter a name. Then set the Page format (DIN A4 portrait, DIN A4 landscape or US Letter) and enter the dimensions of your sheet:
Columns and Rows: Number of labels side by side and one below the other
Cell width and Cell height: Size of a single label
Margin left and Margin top: Distance from the first cell to the edge of the sheet
Horizontal gap and Vertical gap: Distance between the cells
You can find the dimensions in the manufacturer's specifications for your sheet. The Page preview immediately shows you how the cells are positioned on the page. If your sheet is similar to one of the existing sheets, you can also duplicate it and adjust only the values that differ.
Create a free grid
Select Free grid as the Type, enter a name and set the Page format. Under Page margin, enter the margin that your printer cannot print on — usually 4 to 5 mm for laser printers. Enable Print cut marks if you want fine lines to be printed at the corners of the labels for cutting them out.
With the free grid, you do not define columns and rows: How many labels fit on a page is determined when printing, based on the selected label size.
Print formats that are stored in label templates
A label template can be designed for a specific label sheet. If you open such a sheet, you can see at the top which templates use it. Cell width, Cell height and Type can then no longer be changed. If you need different dimensions, duplicate the sheet and adjust the copy.
If you delete a sheet that is stored in templates, the label sheet of those templates is subsequently set to No sheet, free size. The label size of the templates remains unchanged.
Select a print format when creating product labels
In the Create product labels window, in the Paper section, you use the Print format field to select how the labels are to be printed. To find out how to open the window, see How do I create labels for my products?
If you select a Label sheet, Pickware uses the cell size of the sheet as the label size. Width and height can then no longer be changed separately.
With the Free grid, you define the label size yourself.
If you are using a sheet that has already been partially used, under Start position you use Start at column and Start at row to define the cell from which printing starts. The cells before it remain empty.
If a label sheet is stored in the selected label template, this sheet is used automatically and cannot be changed in the window.
Before your first print, do a test print on plain paper and set the scaling in the print dialog to 100%. Otherwise, the labels will be misaligned on the sheet.
