The WMS App prints delivery notes, invoices and shipping labels directly after picking or during packing. For this to work, you define in the app which printer is responsible for which document. This only takes a few minutes and is set up once per device. You also set up a label printer such as the Zebra ZD421 for shipping labels here. If the app reports Für den Typ bzw. das Format des Dokuments ist kein Drucker konfiguriert., the assignment to a printer is still missing for this document or paper format.
Before you start
Your printer is a network printer with IPP support (Internet Printing Protocol) and is on the same network as your iPhone or iPad. This applies to most network printers.
For shipping labels, you need a network-enabled label printer that supports the ZPL printer language, or a document printer with an A5/A6 tray.
If your printer is not network-enabled or you want to print via Windows, you need a print server.
To find out which printers are suitable, see Which printers are supported by Pickware?
Set up a printer in the app
Open the App Menu at the top left, tap Settings and then Printers.
Choose what you want to set up a printer for: via Select document type for a document type (e.g. delivery note or invoice) or via Select paper format for a paper format (e.g. A4, A5, A6 or the format of your carrier).
Select the printer. The app automatically searches for printers on your network; allow access for this. If your printer does not appear in the list, you can add it manually via its address (URL).
If needed, adjust the printer settings, for example the paper tray. If you print on a format that the printer does not offer by default, you can create a custom paper format in millimeters here.
Repeat the steps for each additional document or paper format. You can assign the same printer to several documents or use a separate one for each.
Note: The printer settings apply to the respective device. If you work with several iPhones or iPads, you set up the printers on each device — this way, each packing table can use its own printer, for example.
Set up a label printer for shipping labels
You set up a label printer for shipping labels in the printer settings of the app via the Add label printer button. This is the only way the app addresses the printer using the ZPL printer language and uses the appropriate resolution (DPI).
Which setting for which document?
Document | Typical printer | Assign via |
Delivery note, invoice | Document printer, A4 | Document type or paper format A4 |
Shipping label | Label printer (ZPL) or document printer with A5/A6 tray | Paper format of the shipping label |
Customs documents (CN23), export documents | Document printer, A4 | Paper format Default DIN A4 (no separate document type) |
For delivery notes and invoices, a printer under the paper format Default DIN A4 is enough. Customs documents (CN23) and export documents do not have their own document type. They are usually printed via the paper format Default DIN A4. If no printer is assigned there, the app only displays these documents instead of printing them.
Attention: Do not additionally assign delivery notes and invoices to a printer via the document type if they are already printed via the paper format Default DIN A4. With this double allocation, it can happen that only the delivery note is printed. In that case, remove the printer under the document type again.
You assign shipping labels via the paper format of your carrier, for example the DHL label in A5 or A6 format. If this allocation is missing, the app uses the printer for the next larger standard format, and finally the printer for A4. Make sure that the assigned printer can also print the format: an A4 laser printer is not a label printer for A6.
Which documents the app prints after picking at all, and in what quantity, is not defined in the app but per shipping method in the Pickware Admin. To find out how this works, see How do I determine the number of documents to print per shipping method?
Do not print a postponement slip when postponing
If you postpone an order in the WMS App, the app prints a postponement slip. There is no setting to turn this off. The postponement slip is only printed if a printer is assigned under the paper format Default DIN A4. You can therefore leave the paper format empty and instead assign the documents individually via their document type.
Attention: Without a printer for the paper format Default DIN A4, the app also does not print documents that do not have their own document type, for example customs documents (CN23). Therefore, only use this approach if you do not print such documents from the WMS App.
Open the App Menu at the top left, tap Settings and then Printers.
Remove the printer under the paper format Default DIN A4.
Assign delivery note, invoice and the other documents you need to a printer each via Select document type.
If nothing is printed
Via the App Menu, you can see all print jobs of the device and whether they were successful. You can find help with problems under What can I do if my documents from the WMS App are not printed?
