How does packing for batch picking work in the WMS App?

Shopware 6 — After picking in batch picking, packing starts. Learn how to assign products to boxes, complete orders, and ship them.

In batch picking, picking is followed by a separate packing process. You assign the collected products to the individual orders, allocate them to boxes, and complete the orders, including printing documents and shipping labels. How does the packing process work in the WMS App? gives an overview of the packing process for all picking types.

Packing modes

Two modes are available for the packing process in batch picking, which you set in the WMS configuration:

  • Product-by-product – You scan the collected products one after another and assign them to the boxes of the respective orders. This process is described below.

  • Order-by-order – You pack one order completely before starting the next. After scanning a product, you pack all remaining items of the same order, print documents and the shipping label, and only then move on to the next order. This process is described in How does packing at the packing table work in the WMS App?.

Packing overview

Once picking is complete, you arrive at the packing overview.

Tap Start packing to begin the packing process. Alternatively, you can postpone the entire process via Pack later.

Here you see a progress ring that shows how many orders and products have already been packed. Below it, you find the product list of all products to be packed.

Packing products and allocating boxes

Scan a product or select it via the product selection to assign it to a box. For each product, the WMS App shows the name, product number, manufacturer, and weight. In the lower area you see the allocation: how many units of the product are to be packed into which box. The checkmark next to Quantity turns green as soon as the required quantity is reached.

Tap Complete box to confirm the allocation and move on to the next product.

Order progress

Within an order, you see the order number at the top, a green progress bar, and the current box number. The product list is divided into Open products and Packed products. Open products still need to be scanned and allocated, while packed products are already assigned to a box.

Completing and shipping an order

As soon as all products of an order are packed, a checklist with the following steps appears at the bottom of the screen:

  • Complete order — The order is marked as completed.

  • Print documents — Order documents such as the delivery note or invoice are printed automatically, depending on the configuration.

  • Print shipping label — The shipping label is created and a dialog opens automatically in which you can check the shipping method, parcel weight, parcel dimensions, and shipping address, and adjust them if necessary.

Once the shipping label is created, tap Ship to mark the order as shipped and move on to the next order.

If you do not want to ship the order yet, you can also cancel the creation of the shipping label. Afterwards, you can continue via Ship later.

Postponing the packing process

You can postpone a packing process at any time. To do so, tap the three-dot menu in the top right and select Pause.

A document is printed for the postponed shipping process, listing the remaining products. By scanning the barcode on the document, you can resume the packing process at a later time.

Info view and order overview

You can also open the Info view via the three-dot menu. It shows you the picklist number and an overview of all included orders, divided into Open orders and Packed orders. Each order is displayed with its order number, date, and customer name.

Note: Single Item picking also includes a packing process. Since a scan corresponds directly to an order there, the process differs slightly. You can find more information in the corresponding article.
