How do I assign a default storage bin to products in a warehouse?

A product can have a maximum of one default storage bin per warehouse. Even if the stock for this storage bin drops to 0, the assignment remains in place.

Assigning a default storage bin manually

Default storage bins can be adjusted in the product details in the Stock tab. There you'll find a separate section for each warehouse, where you can use the respective dropdown menu to choose from all the storage bins where the product has stock. You can identify the default storage bin by the star next to the name of the storage bin. The entry Unknown storage bin cannot be selected as the default storage bin.

You can change the default storage bin at any time. Simply select a new storage bin in the dropdown menu. The previous storage bin will then automatically lose its assignment.

Assigning a default storage bin via CSV import

You can also assign the default storage bin for multiple products at once via CSV import. To do this, open the stock overview under Lagerhaltung (Inventory Management)Bestandsübersicht (Stock Overview). Here you can filter the overview as needed, for example by selecting specific products or warehouses. Then click Export.

In the CSV file, you can now adjust the values in the Default storage bin column and upload the modified file again using the import button in the stock overview. Please make sure to check our Tips for working with CSV files. You can find more information about the stock overview here.

What role does the default storage bin play in stock movements?

Behavior when booking stock in

For manual stock movements, the respective default storage bin is preselected after you select the warehouse. For stock increases via CSV import, the product is also stored in its default storage bin. If no default storage bin has been assigned to the respective product in the default warehouse, the product is stored without a storage bin assignment (unknown storage bin).

Behavior when booking stock out

If a product is assigned to multiple storage bins, stock is booked out in alphabetical order. The default storage bin is not given special consideration in this process. Stock from the unknown storage bin is always booked out last.
