A product can have at most one default storage bin per warehouse. Even if the stock for this storage bin drops to 0, the assignment remains in place.
Assigning a default storage bin manually
Default storage bins can be set for each warehouse in the product details under the Stock tab via a dropdown menu.
A separate section is available for each warehouse. There you can see all the storage bins where the product is located. The default storage bin is marked with a star. To change the default storage bin, simply select a new storage bin via the storage bin search in the dropdown. The previous storage bin then automatically loses its assignment.
Assigning a default storage bin via CSV import
You can also assign the default storage bin for multiple products at once via a CSV import. To do this, open the stock overview under Lagerhaltung → Bestandsübersicht (Warehouse Management → Stock Overview). There you can filter the overview as needed, for example by selecting specific products or warehouses. Then click on Export.
In the CSV file, you can now adjust the values in the Standardlagerplatz (Default Storage Bin) column and upload the modified file again via the Import button in the stock overview. Please be sure to follow our Tips for working with CSV files in Shopware.
You can find more information about the stock overview here.
What role does the default storage bin play in stock movements?
Behavior when adding stock
With manual stock movements, once you select the warehouse, the respective default storage bin is preselected. With stock increases via the Shopware API or CSV import, the product is also stored in its default storage bin. If no default storage bin has been assigned to the respective product in the default warehouse, the stock is stored without a storage bin assignment (unknown storage bin).
Behavior when removing stock
If a product is assigned to multiple storage bins, the stock is removed in alphabetical order. The default storage bin is not given any special consideration here. Stock from the unknown storage bin is always removed last.
