The Message Queue in Shopware 6 ensures that many tasks run in the background – for example sending emails, importing/exporting data, or Pickware processes. If it doesn't work properly, these tasks get stuck, and your shop responds slowly or incorrectly. A working queue is therefore absolutely necessary for your shop and Pickware to run smoothly.
You can find a more comprehensive tutorial on the Message Queue directly from Shopware here.
How can I tell that my Message Queue isn't working properly?
There are some typical signs that suggest something is wrong with your Message Queue:
Import and export functions such as the DATEV document export or the import of supplier orders don't work
Since these functions always run through the Message Queue, they are one of the most common symptoms
Pickware processes are not completed or are only completed after a long delay
Orders or stock levels are not updated
In the Shopware Admin, tasks remain permanently in the open state
Buttons in the Shopware Admin are greyed out, and state changes and order confirmations arrive late
Some Shopware and Pickware tasks are started regularly via so-called Scheduled Tasks. These tasks are also processed through the Message Queue – if the queue doesn't work, these tasks won't be executed either. So if these processes no longer work as usual, the cause is often a Message Queue that isn't running.
Among other things, Pickware calculates the available stock levels via the Message Queue. If it isn't running, buttons can therefore stay greyed out, and state changes and order confirmations arrive late.
How do I check the status of my Message Queue?
If one or more of these symptoms occur, you should first check the status of your Message Queue. You have the following options:
Checking via Frosh Tools
We recommend the free plugin Frosh Tools from Friends of Shopware for checking. With the traffic light at the top left of your Shopware Administration, you can see live, quickly, and without detours whether there are any problems.
You can also check in real time how exactly your messages are being processed in the Warteschlangen-Manager (Queue Manager) area.
Here you can (among other functions) view the status of your Message Queue in detail and see how much delay there is and whether messages are getting stuck in the queue.
Checking via the Shopware Admin
The Shopware Admin itself also gives you an overview of your Message Queue under Settings → Nachrichtenwarteschlangen-Statistiken (Message queue statistics), which logs processed messages.
What can I do?
If your queue isn't working, it's usually because no active worker process is running.
Please contact your hosting provider or administrator and ask them to set up the CLI Worker permanently. It processes the queue independently of the Shopware Administration and makes sure that all Pickware and Shopware tasks are processed correctly.
You can find instructions in the official Shopware documentation: Message Queue and Scheduled Tasks Some hosting providers also offer their own step-by-step guides:
You can find even more detailed technical information about the Message Queue in the Shopware documentation for developers.
Worker via cron job: receivers from Shopware 6.5 and 6.6
If you run the worker via a cron job, check the messenger:consume command. From Shopware 6.5 onwards, it must additionally contain the receivers failed and async, and from Shopware 6.6 onwards also low_priority. With the old syntax, the worker aborts without you noticing. A Supervisor job is more reliable than a cron job.
A single message is blocking the queue
A single message in the failed queue can cause messenger:consume to abort on every run. With bin/console messenger:failed:show, you can see which messages are in there.
Frequently asked questions
Is a waiting PickwareDocumentDateIndexBackfillTask entry normal?
Yes. The PickwareDocumentDateIndexBackfillTask task runs at a 60-second interval and ends as soon as the index has been built once. A waiting entry is normal and doesn't need to be cleaned up.
