With our document editor, you customize the layout and content of your order documents directly in your Shopware Admin — without your own Twig file, without your own plugin and without a developer.
Open the document editor
Navigate to Settings → Shop → Documents and open the document type you want. On the detail page, you'll find the Design the document button in the top right, which opens the document editor.
Simple view and expert mode
In the top right of the editor, you switch between two views: the Simple view (default) and Expert mode.
In the Simple view, you choose what you want to customize from a list of quick settings for the respective document. For example, you can quickly set a background image or logo. You can also choose which Sales Channels the changes should apply to.
You can update the preview using the button in the top right. This shows you right away how your change affects the finished document before you save it.
The Simple view also shows you the note Edit with Pickware AI. Instead of making the changes manually, you simply describe in the chat what should change — for example, adjusting colors or fonts, adding columns or moving line items. You can find out more in the article Customizing document templates with Pickware AI.
Expert mode hides the quick settings and gives you selectable editing blocks with direct access to Twig and CSS — for customizations that go beyond what the Simple view offers. You need knowledge of Twig and CSS for this.
Here you can also add your own custom CSS or choose from available variables.
Scope of the customization
You can make a customization globally (for all Sales Channels) or specifically for a single Sales Channel. If no customization of its own is stored for a Sales Channel, the global customization applies automatically — if there is no global customization either, the original area of the document is used.
When a customization cannot be saved
The editor checks your customization directly against a preview. If the document can no longer be rendered as a result, the editor notifies you before saving — the faulty change is not applied.
When the editor is locked
In some cases, the editor shows a note instead of the template explaining why the document cannot be edited. The editor generates the preview and variables based on the latest order in your shop. Depending on the note, proceed as follows:
No order to render against: Your shop doesn't have an order yet. As soon as the first order has come in, you can use the editor. This document type cannot be customized yet: This affects cancellation invoice, credit note and invoice correction. These documents are derived from an invoice, which the editor's preview cannot display yet. Customize the invoice instead — your customizations are carried over to these documents. This document type cannot be customized: Receipts from Pickware POS have a fixed layout and cannot be edited in the editor. This document has no layout: E-invoices are data files in XML format, not designed pages. Customize the document that accompanies them instead. This document has no layout of its own: PDF documents with an embedded e-invoice use the template of another document, for example the invoice. Customize that document.Dieses Dokument lässt sich gerade nicht rendern (This document cannot be rendered right now): The preview aborted with an error. This can happen if a document type requires data that the latest order in your shop doesn't contain — for example, with document types that come from another extension. Try again later. If the note persists, contact Pickware Support.Customizations cannot be applied: Another extension has already taken over the document output of your shop. In this case, deactivate the other extension to be able to use the document editor.
Security restrictions
The document editor does not replace every conceivable Twig function — for security reasons, the range of functions is restricted. If the editor's capabilities are not sufficient for a customization, you can additionally override the underlying Twig templates directly in Shopware 6.
