You currently use Pickware with Shopware 6 and are considering switching to Shopify? First, it is important to understand what this switch means – and which part of it affects Pickware.
Quick note upfront: Switching from Shopware 6 to Shopify is primarily a platform migration – that is, moving your entire shop (products, customers, orders, content, SEO/redirects, theme) from one shop system to another. This is a large project that goes far beyond Pickware.
Carry out the migration with a partner agency
Because a platform migration affects many areas that are not part of Pickware (shop data, theme, SEO, redirects), we recommend planning and carrying it out together with an experienced, certified partner agency. This way you make sure that no data or rankings are lost during the move.
You can find a suitable partner agency on our Find a partner page.
The Pickware part of the switch
Pickware for Shopify is a cloud product and differs fundamentally from Pickware for Shopware 6. You install the Pickware App from the Shopify App Store and start a new instance of your Pickware Admin via the setup flow.
Independently of the actual shop migration, you set up Pickware again on the new Shopify side. The building blocks that matter to you:
Set up Pickware for Shopify – Installation and basic configuration work like any other new Pickware Shopify setup, including creating your warehouses and bin locations. You can find a step-by-step guide in our onboarding series.
Products and current stock – As soon as you connect your Shopify shop to Pickware, all existing products are imported automatically – including the stock at that point in time. Learn more in How do I import my products from Shopify to Pickware?
Fine-tuning stock – If you want to fine-tune your stock further, for example exactly per bin location, you can do so afterwards via CSV stock import.
Suppliers and open supplier orders – can also be transferred via CSV. The column structure for export and import is identical, so in many cases an export from your existing Shopware 6 installation can be imported directly. Learn more in How do I import a supplier order into the Pickware Admin?
Product sets – you create them in Shopify, for example with Shopify Bundles, not in Pickware. Learn more in How do I use Shopify Bundles with Pickware for Shopify?
Unique SKUs – In Shopify, an SKU can occur multiple times, while in Pickware it must be unique. Duplicate SKUs receive the suffix
-duplicate-…in Pickware and their own stock. Learn more in How do I deal with product duplicates in Pickware?
Recommended process:
First, set up Pickware for Shopify with the basics (including warehouses and bin locations)
Then connect your Shopify shop – products and current stock are transferred automatically
Afterwards, fine-tune your stock and transfer suppliers and open supplier orders via CSV import.
Parallel operation and open orders
You can already prepare carriers such as DHL or UPS in Pickware for Shopify while your Shopware shop is still running. Maintenance mode in Shopware only affects the storefront. You should therefore continue to complete open orders in the Shopware Admin. Whether you transfer old orders to Shopify is up to you.
Attention: If you transfer orders to Shopify, first import all orders into Shopify and only then activate the order import in Pickware. Orders that have already been imported are not automatically deleted in Pickware.
What happens to my Pickware licenses from Shopware 6?
Licenses that you paid for via the Shopware Store (e.g. ERP or ERP Pro) cannot be moved to Shopify. Pickware credits the time range you have already paid for as a discount on your Shopify subscription. Tell Support your desired start date for this.
You cancel the licenses from the Shopware Store yourself with Shopware: In your Shopware Account, select the domain under Shops, select the extension under the rental licenses at the bottom, and click Cancel rental. Deactivating or uninstalling is not a cancellation.
What Pickware does not do
Pickware does not migrate your entire shop. Topics such as transferring order history and customer accounts, URL redirects, SEO and the theme are part of the platform migration itself and are handled by the partner agency or on the Shopify side – not by Pickware.
