How do I create action codes for picking boxes?

Set up picking boxes for Pickware with Shopify by creating action codes as barcodes or QR codes.

With action codes for picking boxes, you can capture your picking boxes directly by scanning when using multi-order picking with the WMS App. Barcodes and QR codes are particularly well suited for carts with many boxes, because they can store several numbers in a single code.

In principle, you can create action codes for picking boxes with any tool that can generate barcodes (Code-128) or QR codes. If you want to create your own barcodes or QR codes for cluster picking, however, the data they contain must follow a specific format. This format determines which box numbers are added when you scan.

^B<Kiste 0>[$<Kiste n>...]

Keep the following points in mind when creating QR codes and barcodes:

  • If you want to capture individual boxes, use the prefix ^5.

  • If you want to capture multiple boxes, use the prefix ^B.

    • Separate multiple box numbers with $.

  • You name the boxes through your code - the WMS then adopts these numbers.

  • Example:

    • ^512 → adds box "12" to the picking

    • ^B12$37$105 → adds boxes "12", "37" and "105" to the picking

A code without a prefix is not recognized. Pickware does not generate labels for picking boxes itself; create the codes with any barcode or QR code generator.

Start cluster picking via barcode or QR code

In the WMS App, you can add several picking boxes at once by scanning a single barcode or QR code.

To do this, simply open the cluster picking setup and scan the barcode or QR code attached to your picking cart. All boxes linked to this code are then automatically added to the picking. Boxes that have already been added are also skipped automatically, and if there are no new boxes included, the app shows a short error message.

This function makes it easier to start large picking runs with many boxes, since you don't have to scan each box individually. You can start the scan in the list of open orders: here, the scan opens the cluster picking setup and adds the boxes directly. You can also start the scan directly in the cluster picking setup, where the scan only adds the missing boxes.
